Marist men’s soccer has released its 2025 schedule, which features six non-conference games and ten MAAC games, up from eight in 2024. All of Marist’s non-conference opponents hail from New York, apart from Lehigh, who travel to Poughkeepsie.
Non-Conference Schedule
Stony Brook (CAA) – Away – August 21st
Marist and Stony Brook have not played each other since 2016, which was one of only eight all-time meetings. Stony Brook took the last one, 2-0 in Poughkeepsie, and has won five all-time. The Red Foxes have one win at home and on the road over the Seawolves, but four losses on the road make it clear that Marist is better on their home turf.
Army (Patriot League) – August 28th – Home Opener
Marist and Army have clashed 20 times in their history, dating back to 1982. The Red Foxes took the previous matchup, winning 1-0 in 2024 behind a goal from current sophomore forward/midfielder Chris Verhuel. Sitting at 9-4-1 since 2000, Marist has controlled a large portion of the meetings, never losing more than a single game in a row.
The Black Knights travel to Poughkeepsie on August 28th for Marist’s home opener. Marist, who is 3-1-1 when hosting, aims to start their campaign strong and continue their success.
Fordham (American East) – Away – September 5th
Fordham traveled to Poughkeepsie ranked 18th in the nation last fall, but a 2-1 loss to Marist knocked them out of the top 25 rankings. Then senior forward Richard Morel scored both of Marist’s goals to lead the Red Foxes to a statement victory.
Marist sits at 5-6-2 all-time against the Rams, and is 2-3-1 in games played in the Bronx. Since their last win over the Rams on the road, Marist is without a win while piling up three losses and a draw.
UAlbany (American East) – Away – September 9th
Albany took down Marist 2-0 in 2024, although the Red Foxes controlled most of the matchup. The Great Danes are 8-4-3 all-time when playing Marist, and have never lost twice in a row. 3-6-1 over the last 10, the 2025 Marist Red Foxes will try to avenge their former woes against the American East side.
LIU (NEC) – Away – September 13th
Marist had a very intense matchup against the Sharks in 2024, winning 3-2 at home. Now sophomores, defender Gijs Verhuel and defender/winger Evan Maruqes, as well as midfielder/forward Adam Rustami, who has since transferred to UNC Greensboro, all found the net. This meeting was the only time the two sides have ever faced off, but the 2024 NEC champions will look to make the all-time series even.
Lehigh (Patriot League) – Home – September 16th
Marist and Lehigh share a brief history, with the Pennsylvania-based Patriot League side only facing the Red Foxes twice. Lehigh has hosted both and won both, with the two matches taking place 24 years apart.
The first matchup, in 2000, saw Lehigh emerge with a 3-2 win in overtime. Morel’s goal in the 2024 contest was not enough for the Red Foxes, who fell 2-1 in Marist’s final non-conference game of the fall.
MAAC Conference Schedule
The conference schedule for the MAAC in 2025 has changed since last year, with another two games being added to the eight-game campaign. Marist makes three of the furthest possible away trips, going to Massachusetts, Maryland and Niagara Falls to take on Merrimack, Mount St. Mary’s and Niagara, respectively.
Marist finished 3-3-2 in the MAAC in 2024, making it to the semifinals as the fifth seed before a 3-1 loss to the top-seeded, eventual champions, Iona Gaels.
The changes in opponents from last year include Manhattan, Mount St. Mary’s, Sacred Heart, and Saint Peter’s. The Peacocks finished 12th last year, while the other three teams finished sixth through eighth and made the postseason. All three lost in the first round, looking to make a positive adjustment in 2025.
