The 2017-2018 basketball season signaled a big step onto the national stage for Marist and it’s athletic department. The school, along with all of their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference counterparts, began broadcasting all basketball games on ESPN3.

From beyond the grave, James J. McCann continues to perpetuate Marist Athletics through his foundation, the James J. McCann Charitable Trust.
Perhaps he took a second look at the state of the program and decided it was time to make a change. Maybe he came to the realization that a winning program under Maker was not possible under the current circumstances. The reasoning behind it will likely never be known or truthful.
The Marist College Athletic Department has announced that they have fired head basketball coach Mike Maker after four seasons with the program. The decision comes just under a week after Athletic Director Tim Murray told Center Field that Maker would be staying on for another season.

Marist sent seniors Obi Momah and Connor McClenaghan home happy with a little help from junior guard Ryan Funk to notch a seventh consecutive senior game win. Funk scored a career-high 24 points and made six of nine from beyond the three-point line.
With a strong start from Funk and sophomore center Tobias Sjoberg, Marist strengthened their lead to 21 with 10:35 remaining in the second half. However, Marist soon lost their rhythm and with every turnover Head Coach Mike Maker saw his team’s winning probability of over 99 percent take a hit.
