Last May, the Siena Saints ended Marist’s season on their way to a MAAC Championship win. It was Siena’s first conference championship in 11 years. The Saints’ dominance over the Red Foxes continued today, as the green and gold went home with an 11-10 double overtime victory in Poughkeepsie.
Three minutes into overtime number two, Siena found a sliver of room and fed senior midfielder Gavin Blenk for his second of the game. His first goal opened the score, and his second declared the winner.
The Saints extend their win streak to four and stay at second in the MAAC, while Marist’s hot streak ends at five, falling to 5-3 on the year and 3-1 in conference play.
Siena is led by 6-foot-4 junior attacker Patrick Radomski, who ranks in the top 10 in the nation with just over three goals per game. The offense runs through him, and Marist knows that. Yet he scored three goals in the contest.
“You kind of have to change up what you do defensively going against a guy like him,” said head coach Dave Scarcello. “The most impressive thing about him is that he goes all game; 60 full minutes on high alert.”
Blenk opened the floodgates early for the Saints, netting his seventh of the season and third in his last two games.
A Siena penalty led to the first goal of the game for the Red Foxes as hybrid sophomore attackman/midfielder Drew Weissman snuck into a great position and put in his second of the year.
The Saints had their eyes on taking out Marist early, as they got out to a 6-3 lead early in the second quarter. The goals not scored by the aforementioned superstar, Radomski, were scored by senior attacker Caden Olmstead and senior midfielder Pat Linton.
Following a dazzling swim-move turned goal by junior attacker Steven Cain, Marist’s sideline looked to have some juice restored, cutting the Saints’ lead to two.
A quick goal from senior attacker Travis Fry gave the Saints even more cushion, but the Red Foxes would not go away easily and Cain had a lot to do with that. He scored his second with 10:30 left in the third quarter, making the difference just two yet again.
Minutes later, freshman attacker Jayce Konowitz scored his fourth of the season, bringing Marist within one.
Cain was not done, this time saucing a beautiful pass to set up junior midfielder Sean Mullan for his 18th of the year, to tie the game.
Back-to-back goals from junior attacker Collin Patrick gave what Marist thought would be a two-goal cushion headed into the fourth, but Radomski had other plans.
As time trickled down in quarter number three, the Massapequa product delivered a strike to close the gap to one. A single goal separated the MAAC powerhouses before the final 15 minutes.
A key blocked shot by graduate student defenseman Aiden McCaffrey propelled a blitz of offense for the Red Foxes, yet they could not give themselves enough room to change their game plan.
Graduate student Conor Hufnagel answered the bell for the Saints, scoring his 17th of the year and tying the game at 10 apiece with just under three minutes left to play.
No action late meant overtime; sudden death, one goal decided who jumped to second in the MAAC, and the Saints would be the team to take that spot.
“This was just another game in the 2026 season for these guys,” said Scarcello. “Of course, heightened emotions are playing the defending champs, but we stick to our system and believe in it.”
The Red Foxes will travel to Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 28, to face the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Game time is set for 3 pm.
