Separate gym facilities for athletes and students, an indoor track, and drastically expanded locker room space are all amenities students can look forward to upon the completion of the McCann Center renovation in 2019. For students of Marist’s senior class, all they will get is an inconvenient rebuild.
About 20 feet. That’s how close Marist’s baseball team came to more late game heroics. On a warmer day or with the wind blowing out, Frankie Gregoire’s deep shot to right center could have carried over the wall for a game tying home run in the ninth inning.
And the team, slowly swaying with their arms around one another, repeat it again. “Musa musa musa.” The circle sways a little faster. “Aye olè, bali wae bali wae!” Reinhardt and Bongiorni smile to each other as the team repeats the last part. Now it’s time to get loud.
“Move out the way, please don’t be a hero.”
The lyrics from the song Skateboard P by MadeinTYO blasted over the speakers as Marist junior Brandi Coon stepped up to the plate. The bases were loaded with two outs as Marist trailed by just one run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Unfortunately for the Red Foxes, neither Coon nor anyone else would manage the heroic hit they so desperately needed to give them their second win on the day.
The threat of rain could not stop the Marist baseball team from their third straight…
