Dan AulbachEditor-in-Chief • Football Beat Writer

Dan is a sophomore from Brookline, New Hampshire majoring in Communications with a concentration in Sports Communications and a minor in Data Science and Analytics. Dan covers the football beat and is back for his third season of “The Relay Throw”, the premier Center Field podcast. Dan is an advocate for New England sports and reiterates constantly that the Red Sox have the most championships in the 21st century.

Luke SassaManaging Editor Men’s Soccer Beat Writer

Luke is a junior from Matawan, New Jersey, majoring in Communications with concentrations in Sports Communication and Journalism. He joined Center Field as a freshman, writing feature stories and covering numerous sports; he now covers the men’s soccer team. Aside from writing for Center Field, Luke also serves as President of Maristat, Marist’s sports analytics club. He is a passionate sports fan, with his favorite teams being the New York Mets and the New York Giants.

Marley Pope • Assistant Editor

Marley is a junior communications major with concentrations in sports and journalism and a minor in Data Science and Analytics. He joined during his sophomore year, covering numerous sports, most notably women’s water polo. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Marley is a die hard Ravens and Orioles fan.

Aidan LavinAssistant Editor

Aidan is a junior from Randolph, New Jersey. He is majoring in communications and minoring in psychology. Since he was a kid, he would always read the sports section of the newspaper and now finds satisfaction putting student-athletes moments and accolades into words. Aidan has inherited most of his sports fandom through his Dad, who is a Bay Area native, as his favorite teams are the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants but also a fan of the New York Yankees.

Cara LacyDirector Of Social Media & Graphics

Cara is a sophomore from Long Island, New York, majoring in Communications with concentrations in Sports Communication and Advertising with a minor in Environmental Studies. Aside from Center Field Cara plays for the Marist Women’s Rugby team. Her favorite sports teams are the New York Islanders, Yankees, and Giants. She has high hopes for the Giants this season.

Sam MurphyAssistant Editor • Women’s Soccer Beat Writer

Sam is a senior majoring in Communications with concentrations in journalism and sports communication from Westchester County, NY. In his senior year, Sam became an editor with Center Field and wrote the Women’s Soccer beat. He also is the Editor-in-Chief of the Marist Circle. Sam has interned with Westchester Magazine and the Hudson Valley Hammers of USL-2. Sam’s favorite team is the New York Rangers.

Jimmy TsiantoulasAssistant Editor

Jimmy is a junior from Rockland, Massachusetts, majoring in Communications with concentrations in both Sports Communication and Journalism. He joined the Centerfield team his sophomore year, where he wrote a few stories to get his feet in the door. He was named an editor starting in the Fall of 2023, where he will look to edit any story he can. He is a die hard Boston sports fan, and will constantly remind you of the glory days. His dream is to work for any of the Boston sports teams, or ESPN.

Ben Leeds Associate Editor Volleyball Beat Writer

Ben is a sophomore from Trumbull, Connecticut majoring in Communication with a dual concentration in Sports Communication and Public Relations. After joining Center Field last year, he helped cover Women’s Lacrosse games. This year, he will be an editor and the beat writer for the Volleyball team. Ben is a die hard Yankees fan, who also loves the Giants, Rangers, and Knicks.

Tai Sanders Multimedia Director

I’m a senior majoring in communication and media studies and I have a double minor in sports com and advertising. In addition to being the social media/videographer for centerfield, I’m also am a board member of the National Retail Federation Student Association (NRFSA). Last year, I was also an intern for the Center of Social Media which provided content for the Marist Comm&Arts social media platforms. 

Danny Destler Assistant Managing Editor Men’s Lacrosse Beat Writer

Danny is a senior from Merrick, New York majoring in Communications with concentrations in Sports Communication and Journalism. Danny covers the men’s lacrosse beat and this season will be his third year. Danny is a fan of the Yankees, Giants and Rangers and loves to talk about how the Yankees have 27 championships. 

Leander Schaerlaeckens • Faculty Advisor

Leander Schaerlaeckens is a Professional Lecturer in Sports Communication at Marist and serves as the faculty advisor to Center Field. He’s also the soccer columnist at Yahoo Sports and previously worked at ESPN and FOX Sports. His writing has appeared in the New York Times and ESPN The Magazine and was twice noted in the Best American Sports Writing anthology.
