While Phippen was keeping Iona swinging, it was the thievery of Marist sophomore Caroline Baratta that won them the game. As Ali Milam stole second in the bottom of the first, Baratta snuck home on a double steal to give the Red Foxes the lead.
On an abnormally nice day in late March, most of Marist’s second game of MAAC play was played in the colder shade of the Gartland Athletic Field. After a dominant defensive inning, the sun came out bright in the bottom of the fifth, as did the Red Foxes.
Marist Softball Head Coach Joe Ausanio is returning for his 11th season with the Red Foxes and looks to lead the team to a MAAC title. “Our goal is to get back to the MAAC championship this season and win it, and I think we have a team very capable of doing that,” Ausanio said of the team’s goals for the season.
