Victoria Colatosti Takes Home MAAC Rookie of the Week

As MAAC conference play wraps up, so do the weekly honors the conference hands out. The final winner of the MAAC women’s soccer Rookie of the Week? Red Foxes freshman forward Victoria Colatosti. The honor was announced on Monday afternoon by the MAAC and Marist Athletics.

Marist’s final conference game came in the form of a 1-0 win over Fairfield and served as a springboard toward a guaranteed first-round bye in the playoffs. Colatosti scored the winning and lone goal off an assist from fellow freshman Kaylin Sperley. It was Colatosti’s second on the year, helping to propel the Red Foxes to the aforementioned bye.

Marist finished the regular season at 7-2-1 in the MAAC, good for second best in the conference behind the 9-1 Monmouth Hawks. After finishing their last three games with two wins, one tie and no losses, Marist heads into the playoffs on a high. Perhaps no one feels that high more than their final ROW winner, Victoria Colatosti.

The award is the team’s fourth weekly honor this season. Fellow rookies Kristen Prevosto (September 3) and Anna Davies (October 1) were honored for their own efforts, and junior goalkeeper Francesca Guzzo was named Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 1 as well.

The Red Foxes will take on Siena at home in the MAAC Semifinals on November 1 at 7 p.m. for a spot in the MAAC Championship game.
