Center Stage: The Week’s Top Performers

In this edition of Center Stage, we highlight a strong performance from the football team and a record-breaking weekend on the volleyball court.

Football: Marist romped to a 34-3 win at home over Stetson on Saturday afternoon. It was a standout performance on both sides of the ball. Redshirt junior linebacker Mike Arrington racked up 14 tackles, including two-and-a-half tackles for loss and a sack. The PFL named him defensive player of the week for his efforts. Redshirt junior wide receiver Dwayne Menders had another standout game, finishing with 10 receptions for 142 yards and a touchdown.

Volleyball: Guess who earned another nomination for her efforts this weekend. Sophomore Jordan Newblatt set a new career-high with 31 kills in Saturday’s home win against Canisius. The next day, she set a new personal best with 34 kills in another victory against Niagara. Terrific stuff from Newblatt. 65 kills in two games are ridiculous.

Women’s Soccer: It was a tough weekend for both Marist soccer teams, as they each dropped MAAC games. The women’s team lost 1-0 at home to Siena on Saturday evening on senior night. Another familiar name on this list, senior goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner saved seven of the eight shots that came her way. It still was not enough as the Red Foxes’ offense could not get anything going.
