In the final Center Stage before basketball season, we take a look at a strong performances from the Marist football and men’s soccer teams.
Football: This might be a cop-out, but I’m nominating the entire Marist defense. There frankly wasn’t much going on in the Red Foxes’ 7-0 victory over Drake on Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. Marist held Drake under 300 total yards to earn its first shutout since 2013. Clayborne Fields III and Jayden Johnson were some of the top statistical performers, but any member of the defense will tell you it was a group effort.
Men’s Soccer: Any one of the 1,342 people who attended Marist’s 3-0 MAAC Quarterfinal win against Manhattan can tell you that grad student Kyle Galloway was the best player on the pitch. Galloway broke a scoreless tie in the 51st minute and then added another seven minutes later. Later on, he assisted Liam Salmon’s third that put things out of reach.
Volleyball: Marist split a pair of weekend road games, winning in five sets against Quinnipiac and then losing in straights to first-place Fairfield. Senior setter McKinley Fox totaled 72 assists in the two games. The Red Foxes have one more regular-season game left before the MAAC Tournament.
