Marist (9-8, 4-3 MAAC) traveled to take down the Rider Broncs (3-13, 1-6 MAAC) and won defiantly 67-55. Marist was led by junior center Morgan Lee, whose 22 points marked a new career high in points. Lee added nine rebounds, three assists, and four 3-pointers to her stat line.
Despite shooting 51.2% from the field, and 50% from beyond the arc (tied for a season-high), the Red Foxes committed 21 turnovers, also tied for a season high.
Rider, which entered the game averaging nearly four more turnovers than Marist, finished with 22. However, their shooting was less spectacular, as they shot 32% from the field in the second half.
The Broncs had just one player score double digits; Senior guard Gabby Turco ended up with 13 points despite going 3-for-9 from the field. Making seven of eight free throws is certainly a help, and Turco is consistent with them, shooting .929% on the year.
The Red Foxes held Rider to only 24 points in the first half, hanging on to a six-point lead. Marist went on an 8-0 run amid the third quarter behind a triple from Lee and five points from junior guard Jackie Piddock. Piddock and senior guard Catie Cunningham each tallied 11 points, seeing both players mark new season-highs. A 15-3 run in the final quarter was enough, as Marist widened their lead and never looked back.
After one of the worst first halves in program history against Fairfield on Jan. 11, Marist has picked up two consecutive conference wins and moved into a tie for fourth place in the MAAC. They will look to continue their streak on Thursday, Jan. 23, when the Red Foxes host 1-14 Niagara (0-7 MAAC).
