The Red Foxes left California with another two wins this week against Biola University and Azusa Pacific University. Showing both their offensive and defensive prowess, and extending their win streak to four games.
The Red Foxes have stood consistently in the ACWPC top 25 polls, with a 14-8 overall record and 2-1 conference record, standing at the top of the MAAC blue division.
Marist’s first game of the week was a high scoring late night matchup against Biola University on Tuesday.
Sophomore attack Kendell De Beer got things started for the Red Foxes in the first 30 seconds of play off a pass from sophomore utility Samantha Bentley.
Marist offensive effectiveness was on full display in all four periods of the matchup outsourcing the Eagles each period. The Red Foxes earned three goals in the first, and then added four goals in each following period.
The attack duo of sophomore Emily Scheer and junior Lela McCarroll lead the offensive charge for Marist, contributing four goals each.
On defense junior Ines Sanchez started in net for the Red Foxes ending the game with 11 saves after being subbed in for junior Zoë Seaboch who tallied five saves of her own.
Nine different Red Foxes ended the game with a goal, helping in the 15-10 victory of the Eagles.
The Red Foxes continued their dominant mid week offensive and defensive attack against
Azusa Pacific University the following day.
The Red Foxes matchup started with a high scoring first period with the first goal coming at the 5:42 marker from Azusa Pacific sophomore attack Audrey Dexter.
Less than two minutes later Bentley found senior attack Liana Hunt, to put the Red Foxes on the board. Following Hunts goal the Red Foxes went on a four goal lead.
The Cougars were able to sneak in a last second goal with 23 seconds left to put Azusa Pacific within two.
Following the first period Marist continued to outscore the cougars. Ending with a .483% shooting percentage and 29 shots. Sanchez ended another matchup with 11 saves, and a .647% save percentage.
Eight different Red Foxes scored in the matchup, with two hat tricks coming from senior attack Rachel Dean and senior center Ella Baumgarten. Bentley had another standout performance ending the midweek west coast trip with four goals and four assists.
Marist looks to keep their win streak alive heading into the Wolverine Invitational this weekend. The Red Foxes will play four games over two days.
With a three game lineup on Saturday, March 22 against Salem University, Pomona-Pitzer and University of Merced. Followed by a morning game on Sunday versus Saint Francis University.
The Red Foxes have never lost to both Salem and Saint Francis University, with a 3-0 program record over the Tigers, a 22-7 victory in their last meet up. As well as a 17-0 program record against the Friars, last defeating SFU 20 – 7 in 2024.
Pomona-Pitzer stands just outside the top 25 as a top ten DIII program. The Sagehens find themselves with a current win streak of three entering the Wolverine Invitational, with their first game of the weekend against the Red Foxes. Last season Pomona-Pitzer snuck past Marist with a 13-12 victory and ended up winning the 2024 NCAA Women’s DIII National Championship.
Play will start at nine am for the Red Foxes on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With hopes of keeping the win streak alive.
