Marist volleyball breezed by Saint Peter’s, 3-0, Saturday afternoon to win its second straight Metro conference match.
The Red Foxes have now swept three consecutive opponents, continuing a stretch of strong play that has carried into the start of their conference slate. The win also gave Marist their first 2-0 start to conference play since 2023, when the Red Foxes won two road matches over Saint Peter’s and Rider.
The three-match sweep streak is Marist’s longest since 2014, when the Red Foxes swept four consecutive matches.
Marist’s offense finished the afternoon hitting .310 as a team, compared to Saint Peter’s .155. Reck led the Red Foxes with 19 kills, while Bumstead added 11, finishing with a .579 hitting percentage.
After taking care of Rider on Friday, the Red Foxes carried that momentum into Saturday’s matchup with Saint Peter’s. Marist’s offense found its rhythm early, with sophomore outside hitter Mallory Reck and junior middle blocker Sarah Bumstead helping the Red Foxes establish control. Sophomore setter Caelyn Dumas continued to distribute the ball around the court as Marist built an early advantage.
Dumas added to her stellar season, recording 32 assists and 15 digs. The Red Foxes also received contributions defensively from senior outside hitter Sara Dasic, who finished with 13 digs.
The Red Foxes never let the Peacocks find much footing in the opening set. Marist maintained its lead throughout the frame and closed out the first set, 25-18, to take an early 1-0 lead.
Saint Peter’s pushed back in the second set, keeping the score close as both teams traded points. Marist, however, continued to find answers when it needed them. The Red Foxes gradually pulled away late in the set, taking a 25-21 win and moving one set away from another sweep.
The third set was all Red Foxes. Marist quickly created separation and never allowed Saint Peter’s to build any sustained momentum. As Marist’s offense continued to produce, the Peacocks struggled to keep pace. Marist pulled away to a 25-14 victory, completing its third consecutive sweep.
Now, with two sweeps to begin this year’s conference schedule, Marist has an opportunity to build on the momentum it has created over the last two days. The Red Foxes remain on the road, traveling to Siena College on Tuesday for their next matchup.
