Gabi Mendonca Named Assistant Coach of Marist Women’s Basketball

On Thursday morning, Marist Athletics released a press release naming Gabi Mendonca as the new assistant coach for the women’s basketball team.

The addition of Mendonca was the final piece to complete the staff for head coach Erin Doughty. Doughty added Brittany Shields and Moriah Crisp this past summer, with Nick Volchok returning to the staff as well.

“We are thrilled to add Gabi to our coaching staff! She has extensive experience in team and game operations and will immediately enhance the running of our day-to-day operations,” Doughty said in the press release. “She has worked in our sport at the highest levels and will undoubtedly bring new ideas to our staff and program. She is eager to grow as a coach and brings great energy to the office. She has hit the ground running and we are very fortunate that she is a Red Fox!”

As stated in the release, Mendonca was previously a student manager for the UConn women’s basketball program from 2021-2023, where she then graduated with a degree in sports management. She became an equipment manager in the WNBA for the Connecticut Sun soon after.

Mendonca now joins Doughty in her second year as head coach of the program, coming off a year where the team went 6-25 and lost in the first round of the MAAC tournament to Mount St. Mary’s.
