Bob Davies Steps Down as Marist’s Offensive Coordinator

Marist football offensive coordinator Bob Davies is stepping down after one season, according to Davies in an X post. According to John Brice of footballscoop.com, head coach Mike Willis is promoting TJ Weyl, the current recruiting coordinator, offensive line coach and running game coordinator to become the offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach.

“I’m excited to announce Coach Weyl’s promotion,” said Marist head coach Mike Willis in a January 8 press release. “TJ is a consummate professional, elite teacher, and a tremendous offensive mind. I am excited to continue working with him and to watch him flourish in this new role. Marist got better today!”

Weyl previously worked on Princeton, Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Monmouth and Johns Hopkins coaching staffs in numerous roles. In his most recent stop at JHU, Weyl coached an offensive line that helped average 40 points per game in Division III. Weyl’s promotion leaves an opening at offensive line, a hole Willis has to fill before the 2025 season.

“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to lead the Marist Offense,” said Weyl. “Many thanks to Coach Willis, Director of Athletics Tim Murray and the administration for their support. We will be a group that plays Fast, Physical & Together, and I cannot wait to get to work. Go Red Foxes!”

Davies steps away from Marist due to personal reasons after one season under the Willis regime. At 29 years old, Davies was one of the youngest offensive coordinators in Division I. He previously worked with both Willis and Weyl at Princeton in 2017.

“I also want to thank Bob Davies for the tremendous job he did helping us lay the foundation for this new era of Marist Football,” said Willis. “He is a first-class football coach and an even better person. I wish Stella and him the best!”

Marist finished the 2024 season with a 1-11 record after Willis became head coach following Jim Parady’s 32-year tenure in Poughkeepsie.
