Marist redshirt sophomore center Jason Schofield entered the transfer portal on Thursday, according to Jamie Shaw of On3. Schofield is the second Red Fox to enter the portal this week after sophomore guard Justin Menard entered on Tuesday.
Schofield has dealt with injuries throughout his career at Marist. He did not play during his true freshman season in 2023-24, missed a pair of games last season with an ankle injury and missed the final four games this season after he injured his knee on Feb. 20.
The center was meant to be part of a duo at the five this season alongside freshman center Tarik Watson, but Watson played in just 10 games due to his own injury. With both of them hurt during the season’s final games, sophomore forward Parby Kabamba found himself forced into an unfamiliar role at center.
Schofield’s loss was huge for a Marist team that nearly upset Merrimack in the MAAC Semifinal. He averaged eight points and four rebounds per game while posting Marist’s highest KenPom offensive rating of 113.1. He shot 54.2% from the field and was a consistent presence on both ends of the floor for the Red Foxes.
If Schofield departs, Marist will need to replace at least four spots in its starting lineup next year.
