The New York Yankees selected former Marist baseball standout Bayram Hot with the No.308 overall pick in the tenth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Sunday, making him the second-highest drafted former Marist player in history.
Marist has now had a former player selected in each of the last two MLB drafts — the Chicago Cubs took Hot’s Red Fox teammate Ethan Conrad in the first round last year.
Hot played two seasons at Marist before transferring to Louisville following the 2024 season. As a Red Fox, he hit .329 with a .914 OPS while playing significant innings at both third base and shortstop.
His 2023 freshman season saw him earn MAAC Rookie of the Year and MAAC All-Second Team honors — he ranked second in the conference with a .382 batting average. A slow start in 2024 kept his overall numbers from reaching the same heights, but he produced enough to move to Louisville.
For the Cardinals, he set career highs in several categories this season, including nine home runs, a .976 OPS and 17 stolen bases en route to Third Team All-ACC recognition. Louisville finished the year with a 30-27 record before losing in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
The Yankees’ High-A affiliate, the Hudson Valley Renegades, play in Wappingers Falls, meaning Hot could soon return to the Hudson Valley once again.
