The beginning of the Marist-Dunne era began in less than ideal fashion. A four-point loss to the Army Black Knights put an early damper on a young season. It wouldn’t last, though, as the Red Foxes bounced back appropriately.
A new season is on the horizon and after going 6-25 last year and not having a winning season in 10 years, Head Coach John Dunne begins the tough task of changing the culture and identity of the program.

Over the past two decades, there have been 15 international Men’s Basketball players from 15 different countries at Marist College. Is this just a coincidence or a part of a tradition at Marist of international recruitment by the Men’s Basketball program?
“I feel very confident that this is going to get turned around,” Dunne said. “These players have a desire to win, and they are tired of losing.”
An introductory press conference is set for Thursday at 11 a.m. in the McCann Arena.
The 2017-2018 basketball season signaled a big step onto the national stage for Marist and it’s athletic department. The school, along with all of their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference counterparts, began broadcasting all basketball games on ESPN3.
From beyond the grave, James J. McCann continues to perpetuate Marist Athletics through his foundation, the James J. McCann Charitable Trust.
Perhaps he took a second look at the state of the program and decided it was time to make a change. Maybe he came to the realization that a winning program under Maker was not possible under the current circumstances. The reasoning behind it will likely never be known or truthful.
